Online Dating Efficacy

The paper, “Problematic Internet use, loneliness and dating anxiety among adult university students,” written by Odaci and Kalkan, basically discuss about if problematic Internet use affects a human-being’s behavior. Furthermore, the authors studies on whether problematic Internet use and dating anxiety are related to each other. Also, the authors not only talk about a correlation between problematic Internet use and dating anxiety, but also they describe gender difference in the paper. The research, which the authors have found, states that females use Internet to socialize with other people, whereas, males usually use it for entertainments, such as surfing or playing violent games (Gross, 2004). In a study that the authors show in the paper, social skills and romantic liaisons are related (Larsen & Shackelford, 1996). And, another study that they have found shows that young people suffering from high social anxiety keep away from dating relationships (La Greca & Harrison, 2005). As a result, to prove the correlation between problematic Internet use and dating anxiety among young adults , the authors studies problematic Internet use in young adult students and investigates whether problematic Internet use and loneliness and dating anxiety are related.

The Online Cognition Scale is composed of 36 statements. The statements generally ask about how strongly Internet affects their lives and if they feel helpless when they are not online.
