Ones Who Walk Away Omelas

When I first wrote my response to “The ones who walk away from the Omelas” I chose to stay. This choice was based on the idea that I would see others going about their lives and dealing with this fact. I reasoned that if others could push this thought to the back of their mind and still live a normal life then I could as well. Another idea I introduced was the fact that I would not go against society. I mentioned that it is so wrong to go against the status quo and doing so puts you at a huge risk. This is becoming increasingly prevalent to me as I experience college life. Many times I have heard people being described as sheep. Sheep always heard with one another and always stay in a herd no matter what. The common story about how if a sheep falls/jumps off a cliff that the rest of the herd will follow is true and can be applied to humans. Additionally, I presented the idea that instead of leaving I could convince other people to stand up against the treatment of this boy. Humans hate the unknown. This is why death is the second most feared thing by humans, behind public speaking. In my original writing I mentioned that this would be one of, if not the biggest obstacle to leaving. By nature I am a very calculated person who wants to be sure of things before acting. I feel that this is biological in humans, we all do not want to take a risk that we do not have too. To leave into the unknown and not know where I was going or what I was going to would go against every human and personal instinct that I have. I get frightened by even thinking about this concept. I would like to think that I am a confident and ambitious person but faced with a life or death decision I would error on the side of
