In the passage, Welty describes her desire to read saying "Every book I seized on, stood for the devouring wish to read being instantly granted." This showcases her use of language to convey her desire as she uses personification by saying "devouring wish" to show how badly she wanted to read. Another example is when the author says " I wanted to read immediately, the only fear was that of books coming to an end." This is a perfect example because the author italicized "immediately" in order to emphasize how badly she wanted to read. Also, she describes the books coming to an end as "fear"
