One Week is the story of Ben Tyler, a man who is diagnosed with a severe and advanced form of cancer, and decides to go on a trip on a vintage Norton Motorcycle before becoming a patient. On his goalless trip, he interacts with many people from all across Canada, who help him put his life into perspective, as well as help him appreciate and understand the Canadian identity. Ben is able to utilize these experiences to add meaning and purpose into his life.
Ben Tyler (the protagonist of this film), initially sets out on his adventure with no concrete plan in mind. Tyler’s main goal is to put off his cancer treatment until he feels like he has experienced the sensation of leading a fulfilling life. Tyler accomplishes his goal by buying a motorcycle

As Tyler crosses the country he throws himself into new and exciting experiences, so that each day feels like a full lifetime.
Over the course of his quest, Ben Tyler learns about the importance of leading a fulfilling life, and he also comes to the conclusion that he is being unfair to himself and to everyone around him by living life with no purpose and desire. Tyler reaches these conclusions through a string of intimate and heartfelt conversations that he participates in across Canada. Tyler’s first conversation with two teenagers on bicycles reveals to him that life is about the journey, not the destination, and that he should be more open to new experiences and challenges. The cyclists that he talks are embarking on an extreme cross country journey for nothing more than a case of beer (each), but they are happily following through with it, because they can both see the value in the journey itself. Tyler’s second encounter at the motel with the cancer survivor, allows him to actualize the reality of his fake romantic life, as well as uncover the reality and challenges of the disease that awaits him.
