Langston Hughes in both poems are trying to show the reader that they are fixing there life. In the poem “One Way Ticket”, he is picking up his life and moving. He doesn't like the way he is living. He thinks that it is really bad and not worth him living a terrible life. He is fed up with the “Jim Crow laws”. (line 15) People are being really cruel to one another. They don't even respect their backgrounds.They have to split up the people when they are going into the movies. They are afraid on what is going to happen with them they think that they might be killed. There has been no easy path for them they need to stay strong and overcome the curveball that are being thrown at them. Life back then life was like a rollercoaster. There are the good times and there could be the terrible times. They are both some way giving advice to the reader by telling them the mistakes that they made.For example in the poem “Mother to Son”, “well, son, I’ll tell you:life for me ain’t been no crystal stair. It’s had tacks in it, and splinters, and boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor” (line 1-6). She doesn't want her son to replicate what she did and what happened to her. She wants him to do his best even if it is difficult or even having a hard time. She does want him to strive to be the best that he could be. In many cases, people have a problem that they
