One Republic: Song Analysis

Improved Essays
The song that fits my 8th grade experience is Kygo - Stranger Things ft. One Republic. I chose this song for three reasons. It melody matches my feelings, the lyrics express my 8th grade experience, and the transitions have helped me relax many times throughout my school year.

To start off the melody is really calm and has a nice beat to it. Which changes throughout the song. In general the beat is humble, but at certain parts of the melody the beat becomes faster which is similar to my school year which would go really smooth and at certain times there were many exciting moments, like going to Texas, choir concert, and the Presidential Award.

The second reason why this song matched my year experience, is its lyrics. It

I highly enjoyed Kyra Selman cabaret show at Rockwell. She did an amazing job telling a story in a musical genre. Songs that really stood out are I am what I am, Drunken Love, and Black Girl Medley. The reason those songs stood out because most likely they are songs I have heard already, while majority of the other songs in Kyra cabaret I did not recognize and can not give a name. I enjoyed the whole show but the areas where I know the songs help me remember the story.…

During high school, I participated in the KYYMCA Youth and Government program. The paramount conference of this program is called the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA). This conference serves as a mock session of the Kentucky legislature in which students are able to propose and debate bills. Thus, students become well-versed in debate procedure and, most of all, familiar with the rap of the gavel following the ruling on a bill’s passage. Students will either hear the phrase, “It is the decision of the chair that this bill has been passed, and it has” (rap rap), or “It is the decision of the chair that this bill has failed, and it has” (rap rap).…

Employed with the art forms displayed throughout the film, “The Songcatcher” portrays subjects of culture and relationships. Each aspect: visual, music, and narrative, work together to develop a meaningful story about a woman who realizes her true motives and desires in life. By showing the character’s moral conflicts, the struggles of the mountain people through poverty and misfortune, and eventually the resolution of these conflicts, this story achieves the type of catharsis for the audience most other art forms often attempt to attain. The plot of “The Songcatcher” works in tandem and is accentuated by the either symbolic or literal artistic components of the pieces of music that were chosen, the set that highlights the contrasting cultures,…

Every word that the singer saying is motivational, inspirational, and resonates with the audience. Because people can relate to the lyric the artist is singing, World’s Greatest is timeless. Timbral Observation: Because the lyrics are so powerful, the artist chose to convey them in a “more-relaxed” and subtle tone. The lyrics are not lost and this song can fit an occasion.…

OutKast, a popular rap group throughout the nineties and early 2000s, has a renowned song entitled “Hey Ya!” which features the smooth flows of Andre 3000 and hard hitting rhymes of Big Boi. The song has been a huge hit for years and is virtually known by every American under the age of thirty. When the song was released in 2003, I was just three years old, but had already adopted my dad’s love for music and I frequented the kitchen tile as my dance floor whenever music was playing. OutKast’s song “Hey Ya!” holds a different weight than most other songs I grew up around because it is one of few memories I remember vividly about my childhood.…

The song “Faithfully” from 1983, performed by the band Journey on their album Frontiers is thought to be one of many iconic rock songs from the 1980s that has left a legacy for decades and generations. It mixes many different instrumental parts with the concept of the 1980s rock song, having sounds similar to the well known power ballads and the genre of arena rock. “Faithfully”, tells a story as any other song does, using lyrics and the general progression of the music throughout the song to capitalize on the meaning of the song that the artists are trying to portray to the audience. Using techniques of many artists previous to this time period in which Journey came about, this four and a half minute song sheds a different light on what many people stereotypically think of when the genre of rock is mentioned. When talking about a song and the general progression of events within the music, it is important to try to determine the meaning of the song, due to its relation to the musical features of the piece, such as the chord progressions and general layout of the song.…
