Learning is one of the most imperative aspects of a child’s life, they begin learning far before they even comprehend what it means to learn. As they grow, their parents teach them good and bad and right from wrong, the most basic forms of education. Soon enough they are exposed to daycare and other social settings, and are learning to separate from their parents and cooperate with other children. Finally they start school and are ready to complicate their education with numbers and words that will slowly start to make sense. To help analyze this process, I interviewed an eleven year old girl named Sasha Brown. She is in grade 6 and goes to a catholic school not far from her home. She is tall and seems quite mature for her age, but has a very …show more content…
She began to brighten up as she started to name her favourite subject. To my surprise science was the first thing to come up, I was eager as science was also my favourite subject in elementary school. She explained that science was interactive and she enjoyed working with her groups to do projects and experiments. I analyzed that science may have been her favorite subject because she gets hands on learning experiences. I understood that some kids learn better when they are able to use their senses, like they would be able to in science. She gave the example that one of her projects was to comprehend how the human body would react in outer space for a certain period of time. She was able to do research and experiments to help her and her peers understand this concept. To my surprise Sasha was not too enthusiastic about gym as she described it as her least favourite subject. I was shocked because kids seem to love being outside, playing and getting physical activity, but Sasha was not one of those kids. When I heard this I immediately thought of the article we read in class, about Canada not placing to well in a race with all the countries in the world. My classmates and I discussed how gym teachers don’t train kids to win marathons but allow them to play sports and get necessary physical activity after sitting at a desk all day. Although for many kids gym is there only form of exercise, Sasha later explains that’s she participates in swimming and dance outside of

My child observation and classroom observation took place at the Mt. San Jacinto Child Development and Education center in the preschool/pre-k (ages 36 months to 54 months) program room. This classroom has 2 teachers and 15 children in attendance during my observation. My study child is a male student age 4 who for this assignment I will refer to as C. The classroom environment as a whole can handle the children within the program, however I will provide a better picture of the entire room to have a clear picture for reflection. As a child walking into this classroom you feel a sense of warmth of both the environment and also from the teacher as she greats all her children individually.…

My observation was done on a Pre-K class room at a local Kinder Care Learning Center around 4:30pm in the afternoon. During this time the teachers are preparing the children to leave for the day. The class room was set up to show that the kids were preparing for regular school and not just spending their entire day napping and singing songs. The room had about 6 windows that allowed a lot of natural light, there were 2 square tables with at least 6 little chairs at each table, and a small round blue table. The room was filled with book shelves, cabinets with pictures of the children on the cabinet doors; each child had a cubby with their name and a picture of them displayed on the front of it.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…
