One Hundred Pages In The Book Thief

The next one hundred pages of The Book Thief makes up a lot of the rising action of the book. A few new characters are introduced, but the pages mostly focus on events of Liesel’s life during World War II. These one hundred pages take the reader through part six to the end of part seven.
Although these one hundred pages weren’t my favorite in the book, I still enjoyed reading them. At times, the book was very slow moving and it got boring. However, I still liked reading about some of the events presented in these one hundred pages. I liked the scene when Liesel, Max, Hans, and Rosa build a snowman in the basement on Christmas Eve. This represents the theme that you don’t need a lot of resources to have a good time, just to be with your closest family and friends, which is often forgotten in current days. I liked how they had a great time doing such a simple activity, which really lightens the depressing mood. However, this new, happy mood does not last for long because shortly after, Max passes out and becomes unresponsive for an extended period. My favorite scene in these one hundred pages was when Rosa goes to tell Liesel that Max woke up, and is now doing better. I feel like this because it well represents the personalities of both Rosa and Liesel. Rosa, who is usually mean and rude, must act that way to tell Liesel that Max is doing well. Everyone gets afraid when she walks in the room, which I find humorous. I also liked the scene where Rudy wins three medals for winning races at a Hitler’s Youth Carnival. I feel like this shows how much Rudy truly likes her. Later in the book, Hans gets whipped for giving a starving Jewish man a piece

I liked reading about new events that occurred, especially the snowman scene. I think the author did a good job of adding these pages to carry the reader closer to the climax. I hope to see the pace of the book pick up and to see an interesting

In The Book Thief, based on the events that take place, Markus Zusak is able to convey the theme “Courage is needed when completing deeds of goodness,” by using conflict development. The first example of an act of goodness requiring courage is when Walter, Max Vandenburg’s childhood friend, makes the dangerous journey to Hans Hubermann to be informed whether or not Max Vandenburg would be able to stay with them. In this case, Walter Kugler is going against the Nazi society. He decides that it is more important to save a life than to do what is expected of him. This shows a huge amount of courage on Walter Kugler’s part, because he decides to put his life in danger for another’s.…

I liked how the author brought suspense as to the thought the boy would never be seen again. Although, there were still one hundred pages so the boy couldn’t be dead. What I didn't like is that Jesse didn’t even get a word with Miss Polly Baxter before she left. What I really liked in this period of time is how when Jesse collapsed he was drifting towards heaven and he saw his Mother, Lydia, her child, and his father all happy. Although he wanted to stay Lydia told him he had a promise to keep and Jesse awoke to the woman.…

It had a variety of different events occurring before the climax such as trying to save a squirrel, writing a novel, and David getting comfortable in his new home. I really enjoyed the very peaceful aspect of this book in the sense that it was quite realistic with all of it’s side stories. The slow progression of the main story also made the book a lot easier to read because it wasn’t really forcing the book along and it presented itself as much more subtle. Lastly, The dragons would remind the reader that they are still present as they would pop up mysteriously and affect the outcome of the…
