The next one hundred pages of The Book Thief makes up a lot of the rising action of the book. A few new characters are introduced, but the pages mostly focus on events of Liesel’s life during World War II. These one hundred pages take the reader through part six to the end of part seven.
Although these one hundred pages weren’t my favorite in the book, I still enjoyed reading them. At times, the book was very slow moving and it got boring. However, I still liked reading about some of the events presented in these one hundred pages. I liked the scene when Liesel, Max, Hans, and Rosa build a snowman in the basement on Christmas Eve. This represents the theme that you don’t need a lot of resources to have a good time, just to be with your closest family and friends, which is often forgotten in current days. I liked how they had a great time doing such a simple activity, which really lightens the depressing mood. However, this new, happy mood does not last for long because shortly after, Max passes out and becomes unresponsive for an extended period. My favorite scene in these one hundred pages was when Rosa goes to tell Liesel that Max woke up, and is now doing better. I feel like this because it well represents the personalities of both Rosa and Liesel. Rosa, who is usually mean and rude, must act that way to tell Liesel that Max is doing well. Everyone gets afraid when she walks in the room, which I find humorous. I also liked the scene where Rudy wins three medals for winning races at a Hitler’s Youth Carnival. I feel like this shows how much Rudy truly likes her. Later in the book, Hans gets whipped for giving a starving Jewish man a piece …show more content…
I liked reading about new events that occurred, especially the snowman scene. I think the author did a good job of adding these pages to carry the reader closer to the climax. I hope to see the pace of the book pick up and to see an interesting
