It was the year of 6000, and all the townspeople, with the blood drained out of their face, are crying and moaning about what is about to occur. “I can not believe it is already that time of year again,” says Noah. “ I know, it is crazy. I hate this time of year, even though we have not had to go through it before,” says Brent. “ I find it so stupid that the superiors have 12 year olds go into the Starvation Period. Everyone in the town is gathering materials and food so they can survive the Starvation Period. “ Ring, …show more content…

Noah, Brent, and patricia build their shelter. They fill the shelter with food and blankets, and lots of water. They think they are safe.
“ This is a good shelter guys. We will definitely be safe,” says Brent.
“ I agree. Let's go get some wood. We are need to go to the center of the arena so we can get the stronger wood,” says Noah.
“ Be safe! Do not do anything stupid and be quick; the bell is going to ring soon,” says patricia in a nervous and loud voice.
Brent and Noah get to the center of the arena and gather wood. When they were there the bell rang. They realize that they are away from the shelter and their mom. They need to try and get back before anything bad happens to their shelter or their mom. Noah grabs some planks of wood and starts to rub it on the ground so a point forms at the top. He gives one to Brent and they make their way back to the shelter.

In his book “The Dumbest Generation”, Mark Bauerlein, a social critic and professor, explains his stance regarding the Millennials. Bauerlein claims that students in the last ten years have two major differences compared to previous generations: declined reading habits and declined general knowledge. Bauerlein states these differences, but he fails to clarify the meaning of ‘general knowledge’ and how it is measured. As I have been reading and researching communities, most follow similar general patterns and outlines. The community members are working together for a common goal or they are brought together by corresponding qualities. When I think of the word community it is usually with a positive connotation rather than negative. In Amy Tan’s essay, she introduced a community that her mother was apart of that caused me to rethink my definition of community. Her mother was apart of a community of “broken” and/or “limited” English speakers by default because she could not speak our language properly according to our rules of grammer.…

Have you ever heard a 2-year-old child suddenly shout out a football chant when they were that age and had no clue what it meant? If you haven't, you will be surprised to learn that I actually did that when I was that age. It was in December 1999 when my family had decided to go up to Pennsylvania to visit our relatives for the holidays. I wasn’t much of a talker at that time. As we were arriving at my Aunt Priscilla and Uncle Jim’s house, I sat quietly playing with one of my favorite stuff animals, a beanie baby named piggie.…
