Luke challenges the leader of the camp and wins the control of all the inmates. Mcmurphy was in a similar situation with the law. He was guilty of gambling, rape, and battery and was sentenced to a fairly short prison term before claiming lunacy. Mcmurphy was sent to an insane asylum because of it and although Mcmurphy had no leader to challenge, he still took control of all the patients. Sutton 2
Luke and Mcmurphy have major similarities in each other. They are both symbolized as Jesus Christ figures for a few reasons. Luke and Mcmurphy both are sprawled out on a table at one point in the form of Jesus when he was crucified. Mcmurphy is out on a fishing trip with 12 people and that symbolizes Jesus’ 12 Disciples. Luke is digging a hole for his grave which symbolizes when Jesus had to carry his own cross. Lastly Mcmurphy asks for his crown of thorns before he is electrocuted symbolizing Jesus’ crown of thorns before being crucified. Although
