McMurphy’s bitter relationship with Nurse Ratched causes him to increase his influence toward patients in the ward with each altercation they have. In both stories, the protagonist starts off independent then develop into heroic leaders of rebellion. Also in both stories, the setting is in a depressing environment where people are suppressed and the antagonist is an overpowering control freak. Throughout the movie The Hunger Games, Katniss experiences several difficult situations similar to McMurphy that lead to her developing a vigorous personality by the end of the movie. For example when Katniss represents her district in the annual hunger games, she becomes strong because of the struggles she experienced like watching other tributes die and almost dying herself. Both protagonists were developed with the use of an enemy that manipulate people. Everdeen and McMurphy both make self-sacrifices to benefit people they care about. Both characters develop into leaders people follow through their constant altercations with the common enemy which intensify over time.
