One Direction Research Paper

I listen to music through more than half of my normal days. I wake up, get ready, eat, drive, work, and even fall asleep listening to music. I listen to a various amount of music genres ranging from pop to heavy metal, and classical to rap/hip-hop. A question I am asked frequently is, “What is good music?” Thinking about good music, one band immediately pops into my head. The ever-so famous boyband One Direction. What characteristics determine good music? Is it the music quality, the lyrics, or the members? One Direction’s positive energy determinates them from any other typical boy band. Good music deals with the members and their persona. If a band has great music, but the members have a terrible personality, people will be hesitant about being a fan of the particular band. On the other hand, if a band has great music and the members have good attitudes, people will want to buy their music. For example, the boys in One Direction are always happy through all of the press and concerts. I have been to four One Direction concerts in the past years. Every concert I have been to, the boys are energetic, smiling, dancing, and having fun, causing the audience to do the same. In the article I read about One Direction the author wrote about the positive effects One Direction has because of their persona. “Skipping, dancing, and just generally bopping across the stage like a wacky, waving, inflatable arm-flailing tube man, Styles’ onstage persona is far removed from what you might see reflected in interviews. Making it his mission to involve the crowd as much as possible.” In every One Direction concert I have been to, I have never left feeling disappointed thinking that they could have given a better performance. This specific article talks only about their live performances, but even out of concerts, they have the same energy seeping through them. Nevertheless, the actual songs are a very large aspect in the explanation of ‘good music’. One Direction inspires people through song. The fairly new boyband One Direction has helped many people, mostly teenage girls, by using their lyrics. The four boys use songs to get their points across on lessons that they have learned in life. They use their experiences growing up to teach people lessons in life. In the article I read, the author wrote that One Direction taught her to get back up and try again. One Direction made a journey to turning into a band on the X Factor, the boys did not make it as individuals on the very popular TV show, but they tried again as a band and pursued making it to the final rounds. They write about this in their songs, teaching girls that determination is the key to success with their brand new song Drag Me Down. The newly popular song writing “Nobody nobody, nobody can drag me down”, Not only does One Direction inspire people through song. Hands down, One Direction makes some of the catchiest songs always hitting the top of the charts. Another article that came upon me was solely one about One Direction’s songs and catchy lyrics. “Even if you love it or hate it, you can’t deny that What Makes You Beautiful is such a catchy song. Whenever it plays on the radio, you can guarantee someone will be singing along; we all know the lyrics!” The boys know how to get people’s attention
