One Day Narrative Report

This incident was far from a rarity in a building full of college freshmen. However, this time something was different; I could sense that this was no burnt-ramen epidemic. After everyone was accounted for, the uneasy crowd was shushed, and a man in military gear grabbed a megaphone, took center stage, and delivered the most devastating news I had received in my short eighteen years on this earth: The United States had fallen victim to multiple nuclear strikes from the combined efforts of China, North Korea, and Russia, and one last, end-all and be-all, of strikes was expected. …show more content…
I wasn’t alone, as the crowd of over five hundred people fell into complete silence. It was almost as everyone’s heart sank in unison. A few of my questions would be answered shortly as other military-gear-clad men instructed us to follow them to buses that would haul our groups to top secret fallout shelters the government had put in place in case of an emergency like this one. Because educated youth were a priority, universities were among the first buildings to be evacuated into the fallout shelters. On the way to the shelter, I attempted to call my family to no avail. Perhaps, cell towers had been taken out, or the influx of calls of people in the same situation as I were too much. I could only hope that my family was

At precisely six forty-three p.m. of a late summer’s day, the residence of Maple Street go about their various evening activities— women gossiping, men tending to their vehicles, and children buying from an ice cream vendor. One Fine Day is a Caldecott Metal winner for the vibrant and beautiful illustrations. The story follows a fox who has his tail chopped off for drinking a woman's milk so he has to embark upon a journey to replace the milk for the woman in order to have his tail reattached. I did like the illustrations in this book, however I found it a little violent and the fact that everyone he went to along his journey required something in return. This book is an example of American folktales and teaches the lesson of give and take as well as that there are consequences for your actions. I am not sure if I would use this book in my classroom, especially with younger children.…

It was during the winter of 1950 when it all happened. I ignored the teacher’s lecture to look out through the frosty windowpanes and admire our South Korean flag waving outside in the freezing weather.
