“What if the teachers are mean? How are the students going to act? Does my new school have harder math?” Michelle pondered out loud before getting ready for school. Without thinking about what to wear, Michelle threw on her sequence pants and zebra tank top. “Have a great day at your new school!” Dad shouted downstairs to Michelle.
While Michelle took a deep breath, she looked at the room number. She hesitantly took a step into the classroom.
“From Columbus, Ohio here is our new student!” her new teacher, Mr. Lopez announced to the class.
She introduced herself to all 32 students.
“Hi, I am-um, uh…” Michelle embarrassedly said to her class. She noticed a group of students whispering and laughing to each other. She quickly walked to her

Lopez shouted, “Time for ten o’clock recess!”
Before Michelle could get out of the door, Mr. Lopez said, “I’m so glad you are a part of our school!”
Too embarrassed to say anything, Michelle nodded her head and smiled. The bell rang for the start of recess.
“Well that’s my que to go,” Michelle spit out of her mouth.
“It was nice to finally talk to you!” he answered her.
While she walked down the hall she saw the same group of classmate whispering and laughing to each other. A boy in her class walked up to her and said, “I never got to catch your name, but I am Jason-----” Michelle interrupted Jason and sighed in relief. Jason continued, “and you must be the insane dressed new girl,” Jason finished up his last words of his sentence. A sixth grader from another class glanced over at Michelle, knowing what had just happened.
Michelle’s face changed in a matter of seconds. She walked to the girls bathroom, where Jason and his large group of friends wouldn’t be. A tear rolled down her red cheeks. The bell for the end of recess rang. She quietly opened the door, wiped her tears, and shuffled her feet to room 54 and walked to the back of the room to sit down.
