ONE DAY AFTER THE OTHER
There was once a boy named Charlie who had hoped for a life better than what he got stuck with. Charlie was a normal child from the city of New York. A single mom raised him and both had struggled to make ends meet. One day Charlie was sent to school when he received a phone call that his mother was in the hospital. He took the bus, waiting anxiously. As the bus had picked up different people from different parts of the city, Charlie was growing more and more anxious about his mother’s situation, thinking about the worst condition she could have possibly been in. The next couple of days Dr. Jenkins prepared Charlie for the operation. The day of the operation was when Charlie whispered to Danny that it wouldn’t have been so bad if the operation turned in an unexpected way because then he would no longer have to endure the physical and mental pain of his illness. Charlie continued to say that he had no one who cared for him except for Danny, which had met for a short time. Danny could see that Charlie was trying to make him gain closure if the operation went wrong. Danny didn’t want to see Charlie give up on his life at such a young age. It was then when Danny had relinquished a secret that he had kept from Charlie. Danny told Charlie that he wasn’t completely honest with him because of his situation, but he believed that he was strong enough to handle it at this point. Danny was explained a similar story to Charlie about his past. Charlie listened as he awaits the operation. Danny explains to him how he has married a beautiful women in college that was the kindest person he had ever met. Danny explained how he knew that Charlie was giving up and wasn’t planning on getting better. Danny told Charlie that he always loved him and was sorry to have kept it from him. Danny continues to say how he had panicked when he found out Charlie’s mother, Charelotte, pregnant. Danny broke up with Charlie’s mom and left them to fend for themselves. Charlie yells at Danny but doesn’t ask him to leave because he knows that he is the only one he has left. Charlie, yells so loud that the nurses have to separate the two in separate rooms. Charlie didn’t want the nurses to separate them because he wanted to yell at Danny for how had he had made his mother’s and his life. Dr. Jenkins walks in asking if he was ready for the operation. Charlie responded by asking if he would be able to speak with Danny quickly. Dr. Jenkins smiles and with a reluctant look takes Charlie to him. Charlie stares at Danny who explains that he will see Charlie later and that he is sure of it because of how Danny understands that Charlie is stubborn and wants to live to finish the conversation that had begun. Danny knows that Charlie has much more to say about Danny being his father and will fight to get the last word
