One beneficial effect of self-driving cars is safety. Over 80% of car accidents are caused by human error (3), whether that be drunk driving, fatigue, speeding, or distraction. Being in a vehicle that operates solely on a computer removes all chances of human error to cause an accident. But, this is only true if all other cars on the road are autonomous as well. One harmful effect of self driving cars is their ability to operate successfully and safely during heavy rain and snow. A human driver can better assess the road condition than a computer and adjust their driving accordingly. A self driving car may not see that there is ice over a bridge and it will be too late by the time it realizes it is unsafe. The sensors and cameras on the car
