The musical is a love story, with a more somber take. The story is about the islanders of an island that on one side live the black and poor islander. While other side is inhibited by the islander known as the grand homme they have lighter skin and are rich, one day they cross fates with one another. The story is told by the poor islander to calm a frightened little girl. It is the story of Ti Moune a peasant girl who was found by her adoptive parents perched in a tree during the middle of a storm. When Ti Moune grows into a women she passes upon a dying man that was in a car accident. The man’s name was Danial he was young and handsome but most importantly he was a grand homme. Ti Moune reuses him and later makes a deal with the gods to spare his life and take hers. Ti Moune saves his life and nurses him back to health. Danial leaves to go back to his side of the island leaving Ti Moune. She falls in love with him and decides to leave in search of him. She finds he loved her too and they spend many days and nights together. Danial eventually tells Ti Moune that he is to marry someone else. Ti Moune is then thrown from thrown for the home and is never to see Danial again but Ti Moune waits outside for him in hopes that he will come to her. Danial never comes and Ti Moune’s life is close to fading, then the gods give he a chance to take back her life and kill Danial in her place she is un able to do it and she
