The very last line is “As he buckled the swollen belt, suddenly my groin felt the chill of death.” I don’t really know what Frost was trying to accomplish with this type of ending, but it does well at stirring emotion in the reader. I think that this was an amazing way to imply death without plainly stating that he was dying. I don’t personally like this ending primarily because it leaves story left untold, and brings many questions to mind including what happened to the son, and what his exact cause of death was. I assume that his death was caused by old age, but there are many things that could have potentially caused
