It is human nature to warp reality in stories and myths to gain popularity and appeal. Although Nick Caraway insists at the beginning of The Great Gatsby that both he and Gatsby are trustworthy and admirable men, his implications later in the book indicate that he may have left out Gatsby’s negative traits to boost his own popularity. Through portraying himself as the extraordinary Gatsby’s lone companion and leaving out anything that removed Gatsby’s prestige, Nick attempted to convince readers that Nick was admirable. Autobiographers have the tendency to attempt to gain the support of readers before beginning the actual story. The narrator is immediately identified as “the good guy” in what should be a simple recollection of their life.…

Storytelling is a way to communicate to society in a way that creates a relatable instance such that the reader can see themselves, or a version of themselves, within the story. Storytelling also is a way to demonstrate the struggles of other individuals within a society that a reader my not experience directly, but can nonetheless gain a broader understanding of different struggles within society. Although there are many ways to utilize storytelling techniques, I will apply the approach of Rites of Passage to three of the novels we’ve read this semester. The Rites of Passage that I will be analyzing are those within the stories, Houseboy, Woman at Point Zero, and A Walk in the Night. In these stories I will argue that through the characters ', Toundi, Firdaus, and Willieboy, Rites of Passage there is a physical altercation that caused a stunt in their ability to grow emotionally as a character, thus disabling them to continue to their ultimate stage of their reincorporation into society.…

The type of conflict “On the sidewalk bleeding” is character vs society. It’s character vs society and not group because in the text the people that didn’t help him were not part of either gang, therefore they are part of society and not a group. It’s character vs society because he, Andy, was up against the people that murdered him, the people who left him to die and him against all of the passing society in front of him. It’s proven in the text when it says “He watched the world passing at the other end of the alley. The world didn't know he was Andy.…
