In 1587 John White, an artist from England, and pronounced governor of the Roanoke expedition, was sent with approximately one hundred and ten men, women, and children to stabilize a colony on the Island of Roanoke. Promptly after settling in Roanoke the colonists were in need of supplies; John White left to England for materials in 1587 and returned in 1590 to discover the colony had vanished. This mystery ensued many suppositions of what happened to the settlement of Roanoke, now known as the Lost Colony. This includes the idea that all inhabitants of the island were assassinated.
