On The Boy In The Striped Pajamas

There are many bad people in the world but bad is not equal to evil. Christian faith teaches that we are to hate the sin but love the sinner. The actions that the men and women made during this stressful time should not define them as a person. The Holocaust brought out the worst in some people and the absolute best in others. The individuals who did rescue others did nothing that seemed out of the ordinary to them. Rescuers did not view what they were doing to be something special. Rather they thought anyone who is capable of helping would do so simply because it is the right thing to do.

This parable demonstrates how individuals who help others are the ones showing compassion. The parable can be summarized in the following way: a man was traveling to another town along the way, he was beaten and robbed and then left there to die. A priest was traveling on the same road but he crossed the road and walked past on the other side. A Levite also walked past on the other side of the road. A Samaritan walked by and stopped to help the man by bandaging his wounds and taking him to an inn. At that time Samaritans were considered to be half-breeds to the Jews, but this man took mercy on the injured man and cared for him. We are to love one another and show mercy and not to pass by. An interesting point in this parable is that there is no mention of God. The individuals who walked past made their own choice to do so. The Samaritan made the best choice and Jesus has commanded, “Go and do likewise” Luke 10:37. In Elie Wiesel’s speech The Perils of Indifference he states “Indifference, after all, is more dangerous than anger and hatred.” The priest and the Levite were both indifferent to the man’s suffering. Indifference leads to many individuals not acting on the proper moral behavior that will benefit the society. The Plague references some individuals who became indifferent to the course that the plague was running. Their indifference lead to them being separated from the rest of the

The book, Night, by Elie Wiesel and the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, demonstrates two completely different perspectives towards the Holocaust. Night, a nonfiction memoir, depicted the life and feelings of a young boy who was forced to endure the harshness and depression of a life in a death camp. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, a heartbreaking movie, based on a fictional novel, shares the inimaginable friendship of a Nazi soldier's son, Bruno, with an imprisoned Jewish boy, Shmuel. Together, they risk their lives to save the young Jew's father. Both stories share the same main topic, the Holocaust during World War II.…

This time period has been magnified, examined, and studied by many and to me their are many lessons that can be learned. The lesson that sticks out the most to me is to accept others for who they are and don’t be afraid to be yourself. If everybody accepts each other then nobody has to be afraid to be themselves.…

The Samaritan helped the man and paid in full for him to be taken care of, which would have given a powerful message to the Jews because of their view of Samaritans. Jesus used this parable to turn the question from “who is my neighbor”, to “who can I be a neighbor to”. When Jesus asked the lawyer which man was his neighbor, the lawyer was possibly unwilling to say the Samaritan, which could be why he answered the one who had mercy on him. Jesus responded by telling the lawyer to go and do…

    1. In the film, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, the concepts of person perception, cultural and personal identities and persuasive qualities are demonstrated through Bruno and Shmuel’s friendship. We can see person perception through the two boys because at their age to each other the other is just another boy their age that they can play with in a place where they are all alone. They have none of the prejudices or assumptions about each other that those older than them would have casted on each other. Cultural and personal identity is seen through Bruno wanting to be just like his father when he is pretending to be one of the German fighter planes with his friend.…

Throughout the New Testament, parables are facilitated by Jesus in order to get a certain message across to the people. Although the parables often times have the same core ideas, the different words and tones used in each of the different gospels completely change the way the parables are read. In the mustard seed parable, Matthew, Mark, Luke and Thomas all have the same essence, but the different expressions make them very distinctive. Through comparing the similarities in differences between these four Gospels, it can be deducted that similar sources and references were used in constructing the parable.…
