Quinn most notably did this with the ‘stampede’ theory. During one of their lessons, Ishmael states that the entire human race is captive to a story of conquering the earth, he says, “ Even if you weren’t personally captivated by the story, you were a captive all the same, because the people around you made you a captive. You were like an animal being swept along in the middle of a stampede” (Quinn 19). This resonated with me deeply. It put such a complex idea about social pressures and status quo into a simple analogy that allowed for another realm of thought to open
