In the passage “ On Computers in Classrooms: Please Proceed with Caution!” The author’s claim is you should be very careful on deciding whether you really want to get a laptop for students, even though there is many good things about it, you should still be aware of the possible disadvantages of giving these students laptops. I strongly disagree with this author, and believe that students should be given laptops for school. The Internet is one of the biggest things trending world wide, Most parents/older people are less likely to understand the Internet because they didn’t grow up with it, they personally think the internet is bad for you but they think this because they feel like kids need to live life the hard way like they did at one time. They use to have to look through a whole library full of books to find information on a certain topic, but why do that when you can do it at a click of a button. Learning is so much faster with laptops because they have information at the tips of their fingers, and if you think about it, Schools have more time to …show more content…
So many kids are afraid of raising their hands and looking stupid in front of the class if they get the wrong answer. From Put a Laptop in Each Lap! the passage says “ Teachers report that students who used computers in the classroom showed gains in confidence. These students also tended to develop confidence in their own abilities and judgement and take risks that they might not otherwise have taken.” This evidence clearly shows that these kids are becoming way more confident which makes them more participant in class which every teacher wants. At the end of this all, Laptops should definitely be in schools because of how much they help students learn and grow as students compared as if they didn’t have laptops. Why wouldn’t you want your child to be the smartest they can be? Without a laptop they are less likely to reach their true potential, do you really want

The article “In Defense of Laptops in the Classroom” is written by Rebecca Schuman, an education columnist, for Slate magazine. Schuman writes on issues that affect higher education and this is a relevant topic for her readers which include the general public, professionals in the education sector or even students. The author presents both stances on whether laptops should be used in class and concluded that using laptop in class may not be that unfavourable as it can give students a chance to take responsibility. I agree with Schuman’s viewpoint that students are adults-to-be. Taking responsibility prepares them for the working world as there will not be clearly defined rules in the future.…

The article, “Why Laptops in Class Are Distracting America’s Future Workforce” was written by Timothy D. Snyder in 2010. His purpose in writing this article was to persuade professors against having laptops in the classroom because he feels they are a distraction. The arguments Snyder uses against laptops in classrooms are, they distract students’ attention, students miss out of the best part of American life, and he generalizes that this lack of attention will spill over into the workplace. Snyder discusses various online chatting forums such as Skype, Gchat, or iChat that students are engaged in on their laptops during class.…

Teachers have to fight kids to put them down just so they can focus on what is going on in the classroom. Kids who normally take notes are now playing games on their phone and failing their classes. It is shown that kids who use laptops in class score 11% lower on tests and quizzes. They showed that the laptop interfered with the students learning and ability to comprehend, therefore they scored lower on tests than the students who took notes with pencil/pen and paper (Devices in Class). Using computers, students may be allowed to click on and/or find inappropriate content that should not be in schools.…

Even then, however, the importance of using computers for academic study is highly dubious” (Skinner). “A little above a third of computers used in elementary schools is devoted to technical mastery of the computer, sense the study of software programs and typing. This portion of usage increases in middle schools and high schools where technical mastery accounts for 45 percent of computer usage” (Skinner). On a Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., the three Harmon children have been home for the better half of thirty minutes. All have had an afterschool snack and have settled into the family living room with their laptops, phones and tablets. Two of the three children lay on the overstuffed leather sectional while the other relaxes in Dad's recliner. I sat in a rocking chair nearby taking notes on my observations. Little conversation is spoken between the three.…

Because students have grown up with technology and use it in their daily lives, it would make sense for schools to start using them as learning aids, rather than books. "Small business owners are now more dependent than ever on technology for growth since their customers and employees are so geographically dispersed,"Although some parents say that they would rather have their children learn from books like they used, our world is changing and electronics in the classroom would be more beneficial. Although some say that it is muscle memory which is why the teachers give notes, 80 percent of the time, the notes will get lost. If students used technology instead of books, the notes would not be able to get lost because the notes would be on their electronics. In addition, it would help if high school was like college in these types of situations.…

This is a great thing for students because it keeps them organized and tidy. For example, teachers put grades and assign the homework on School Loop. Having technology to help students learn is helpful because it is a fast and easy way to look up information. Also students can help each other by texting if they don’t know how to do the assignment. Another reason why technology should not be stopped at school is because if the teachers are not prepared a week in advance, the students would not have a good time rushing to write all their homework and assignments down.…

Students’ education has changed over the years and the reason for it is technology. For hundreds of years teachers have used books, paper, and pencils to teach their students, but for the last few years technology has become part of everyone’s life in one way or another. Students and teachers are getting their technology through the classroom and it has impacted student learning. Technology has positively impacted student learning because they have more motivation, self-esteem, are completing complex tasks and help others more, while it has the negative impact of poor work and shorter attention span to tasks. One way is that technology has increased students’ motivation to learn and their self-esteem in what they learned.…

Online Textbooks When I was in the K-12 school system, I remember at the beginning of every year, the teacher would call us students up by name to sign for an old, hardcover, seven to ten-pound textbook with horrible illustrations on the cover. Then, as the year went on, I was expected to lug this book all over the school building until the end of the year. If I somehow lost track of the textbook, I would be hit with a seventy-five dollar to a two-hundred-dollar bill. I thought I would have to go through this terrible cycle my whole life, until the day I signed up for my BUS 100 course with a free online textbook. All the course information was at my fingertips.…

School subjects that students usually feel are challenging or uninteresting can become more interesting with access to laptops. Through integrating laptops into the class, students feel more of a connection with the material.…
