Florence is big-boned with long arms and powerful violinist's hands. Florence is very smart, and she scores high on tests. She was my favorite character because she plays the violin. Florence is the lead violinist in a string quartet.
An important incident that happened during the novel was the wedding night of Edward and Florence. Florence has a phobia for intimacy, but Edward doesn't. On their wedding night when Edward tries to get intimate with Florence, Florence runs out on him. This event created issues in their marriage. Florence suggests to Edward a marriage without intimacy, but Edward thinks that idea is disgusting and ridiculous because they are husband and wife. Edward and Florence get a divorce because of their differences.
I enjoyed reading this novel. I would choose to read another novel by Ian McEwan. I liked the characters in the novel, and how the author perceived them. I didn't like how Edward filed for divorce with Florence because they could've worked out their differences, or at least tried more. I would recommend this novel to others. I would recommend this novel to teens who enjoy the romance
