On Campus Mental Health Issues

With these alarming numbers consistently rising over time, the potential solution to the issue must be seen within college campuses and a potential fix to this solution must be implemented soon through the form of better, more sustainable, on-campus mental health services (Mowbray et al. 231). In an academic article written by Carol T. Mowbray et al, the researchers argue in support of granting students with the necessary, undeniable, resource of on-campus mental health services to help alleviate any of the pain, tension, and issues that mental health can negatively affect (Mowbray et al. 235). It is recommended that students be given a more-informed perspective on the potential negative implications mental illness can have in academic careers as well as provide more caring support and availability to help students deal with the seriousness of their real-life issues (Mowbray et al. 235). In a study conducted by Jihan Saber Raga Mahmoud et al, they further the claim for more student engagement with faculty by stating that nurses working within college campuses must effectively teach students how to develop coping strategies and behaviors to help deal with their mental illness (154). With the added pressures of requirements for admission coupled with societal pressure, students are facing more engagement with mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, and stress (Mowbray et al. 228). The research shows that there needs to be a fix in order to work toward preventing this problem from expanding. Effective, on-campus, counseling and mental health services is shown to be a proven help to these issues (Salzer 6). I researched this topic to show that there needs to be more focus on the importance of mental health counseling and well-being to better student experience among college campuses
