The passage, “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings,” by Maya Angelou, has shown that passion can influence people's lives greatly. In the story it states, “she began the first of what we later called ‘my lessons in living’ … ‘Take this book of poems and memorize one for me. Next time you pay me a visit, I want you to recite it’ … I didn’t question why Mrs.Flowers had singled me out for attention” (Angelou 58-59). From those multiple statements it shows that Marguerite had some sort of liking for Mrs. Flowers and Mrs. Flowers could tell that Marguerite wanted to be educated.
