The final book that really spiked with my interest and stayed with me was Michael Pollan’s “The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals.” In this book, we followed Mr. Pollan as he explained the food that we eat in three parts, two of which we read. The local sustainable food chain is a process of growing food in the most natural way without the uses of too many pesticides or fertilizers. In this section the best example of logos is in a side note stating that if the 16 million acres of land used to feed cattle plus grow corn turned into well-managed pasture then “that would remove 14 billions lbs of carbon from the atmosphere each year” which is equivalent of taking 4 million cars off the road (Pollan 149). As I walk into my local Stop & Shop or Market Basket I am overwhelmed by my choices. I look at some of the products and sometimes I find pictures of small farms with wide green pastures. That is how the industrial food system wants us to interpret it, although I know this is far from reality.
