Drugs that lower seizure threshold (phenothiazines, CNS stimulants, tranquilizers, antidepressants and antipsychotics is not recommended and should be discontinued 48hrs before any procedure and for at least 24hrs post-procedure. If the patient is under any of these medications during a procedure to diagnose thyroid disease and iodine isotopes are being administered the iodine-binding capacity of thyroid tissue may be reduced for up to 2 weeks after contrast medium administration.
