However, even though the words are so dramatic and exaggerated, it still gives a vibe of fantasy to us readers. I mean, who wouldn’t want to live a place like this? A place where everybody is happy and there are no wars, laws, rules nor king; a town that would give you the taste of freedom. Which is why, it is called the bright side. However, the town people became too blind to this brightness which results for them to forget what really matters, and that is love and equality.
In every bright light, there will always be a shadow, and this shadow represents the poor kid. The kid embodies the darkness inside the town people. The darkness that they want to keep and never wanted to exposed, for in their eyes it will ruin their “perfect” Omelas. The kid lived in a small room with one door and no windows and this room is like the part of the town people’s heart where their ignorance, selfishness, and many other ill traits of theirs resides. Moreover, this story left us with lessons that could help us to improve ourselves as a person for it will makes us wonder which side do we belong; the town people or the kid. Aside from that is to be a better citizen for the country that we lived in for it reminded us that there are people out there who needs our help and waiting for us to reach out their hands. Before I end this essay, I want to share this beautiful quotation by Azareth Skivel, “I have found so much beauty in the dark, as I have found a lot of horror in the light”. As this quote implies, physical appearance could be deceiving and not everything that our naked eyes could see are beautiful.
