Omega-3 - what is it?
Omega-3 is a so-called essential fatty acid - an essential fat that our body can not produce itself. Omega-3 is an important building block in all of our cells, so it is important that we eat food that provides us with sufficient quantities. Omega-3 should be in balance with omega-6, another essential fatty acid. The balance has shifted radically since the omega-3 in our diet decreased while the amount of omega-6 in food increased dramatically. We eat too little fish and animals from the wild (omega-3) and way too much flour in the form of bread, pasta and breakfast cereals (omega-6).

One can say that omega-3 is a lubricant for our cells. A vital ingredient to the cells in the brain, heart and everywhere else in the body to function et good way. So they can take up necessary nutrients and at the same time get rid of toxins and waste that can damage cells. Put simply take advantage of the healthy we eat and our body against useless or dangerous substances. But for this to work, the omega-3s we consume to be of the right type and do not contain toxins or other harmful substances.
There are many good and bad examples of omega-3 sources in both food and supplements. The differences between the levels of omega-3 in wild and farmed fish, for example, huge, because they live on different diets. The farmed salmon eat feed that is rich in omega-6 while the wild caught fish feed on fish and shellfish that have high levels of omega-3.
The difference between fish oils and between fish and krill oil is also great. Krill are in the food chain and also live in the pure Arctic Ocean. Krill oil is naturally free of the toxins that fish oil is many times need to be cleaned from the order to be approved for humans.
