Sports play a big role in the everyday lives of people all around the world varying from players to spectators and supporters. As sports thrive in the world, the majority of the profits would not be possible without marketing and advertisements. Every two years the Olympics games take place and businesses all over the world want to be included in the large profits associated with sponsorships of these games. The Olympic Games are the most watched sporting events that create profitable global media events. The International Olympic Committee uses Olympism, “a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind,” as the basis of values for their organization. According to the National Institutes of Health, obesity and overweight together are the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States behind tobacco …show more content…
Now of course that is easier said than done. With Coca Cola and McDonalds being billion dollar companies, I can see where it would be hard for one to cut ties with such a huge revenue producer, but if the International Olympic Committee wants to stay true to their “Olympism” philosophy, this is what I believe they need to do. A few companies that I think they could use as sponsors to replace Coca Cola and McDonalds is Subway and Gatorade. Both of these companies promote a healthy lifestyle while still being big enough companies to generate the revenue that the International Olympic Committee desires. The International Olympic Committee is also able to stay true to the “Olympism” philosophy by replacing Coca Cola and McDonalds with Subway and
