Perhaps the most influential contribution by ancient Greek to the western civilization is sports. The origin of the Olympics derived from the competition of multiple isolated/ independent states in Greece that had the passion for competitions through series of sports events. Those who oppose do not necessarily dispute the presence of injustice or racial discrimination and need of a peaceful protest, they just do not agree with the method of protest. Some argue that during these games, fans from all races and backgrounds gather in the stadiums to watch a match. So, such an action puts the whites and other non-African Americans at an awkward place. The discrimination creates more deep division and misunderstandings (Cohen). This, therefore, infringes on the right to gather and the fan's right to enjoy the sport.…
In the mural "Going to The Olympics" by Frank Romero, he placed many symbols in is mural in a specific place. The symbols hat i saw are the hearts, the iron, the blimp, two guys fighting, a horse, a portrait, palm trees, and also cars. The hearts may symbolize the love for LA, the two guys fighting probably symbolizes the games that would be in the Olympics. Also the cars have a certain color in a certain order, they have the colors of the Olympic logo and are in the exact order. In my opinion the way Romero used the choice of colors and shapes to create the mood for this picture of Los Angeles was unique.…

The United States considered boycotting the 1936 Olympics after it was clear that Adolf Hitler was segregating Jewish athletes on the German team (Rothman et al 1). However, the United States was being hypocritical, because African Americans were still being segregated throughout the country, and it was even debated if they would be allowed to compete on the U.S. team (Large 87). Jesse Owens was pressured by multiple sources to boycott the Olympics (Large 88, 222). However, in the end he decided to compete after receiving advice that he could provide a “certain psychological value” for disproving Hitler’s beliefs and that he should not “oppose Germany for doing something” that happens “right here at home” (Large 90). With all the pressure to boycott the Olympics, Owens ignored what the critics said of him and decided to compete because he believed he could make a difference in the fight to stop racism.…

Barbara Jordan In the beginning of the collection makes a quote saying “We as human beings, must be willing to accept people who are different from ourselves.” Now weather i agree will be discussed after the facts are all down and a side would be chosen. Burning Flags is a way of getting messages across and a way to get free publicity in the political agenda that needs to be brought up. The amount of white people being killed by cops is double the amount of black people each year.
