Olny Theatre Analysis

Improved Essays
We put on nice clothes, went out to a nice dinner, and then walked into the Olney theatre with hundreds of others going to see Annie on opening night. The Olney theatre is about to have it’s 75th anniversary and they have produced a bunch of plays. If you were to go see a play, I would 100% recommend that you go see it at the Olney theatre.
The acting at the Olney Theatre was full of expression. They made sure that they showed their emotions. All of the actors/actresses knew their lines very nicely, there was not a time when nobody knew their lines. The people that had singing parts did really well with it. There was only one time when “Annie’s” voice cracked, but it’s okay because it happens to all of us.

Martin, Malcolm, and Me written by JD Lawrence displayed a remarkable production. JD Lawrence and his team did an impressive job in one hour to show the play. There are multiple things to discuss like the acting, directing, scenic, playwriting, costume, lighting, and sound design. The first thing I looked at when I walked in the theatre was how the lighting had been arranged. When we sat down and the play started the main focus is on the stage.…

    Black Theatre Analysis

One of the first things discussed in Eleanor Traylor's essay about Black theatre are the two main forms of contributions made which are minstrel show and slave narrative which is what she focuses on the most. Minstrel show is the first American dramatic form which came from the "tradition of confrontation and improvisation of grace under pressure" (48) which did not have the same roots as European contexts. The process of the creation of minstrel shows was created in America by African people. The contrast between the mask of the blues hero and the tragic protagonist also come into play when looking at the influence of African Americans. It goes beyond the journey, but into the rhythms and vision as well as the angle in which they see life…

I liked how the actors were acting even before the play started. That shows that they actually were putting in effort to make it seem realistic. I enjoyed the realness of the actors. The staging of this play was also fantastic, I felt as though everyone on stage was open to the audience at all times and nobody was awkwardly placed on stage. Throughout the entire play, anytime several people were on stage it didn’t feel as though they were too close or too far from each other and they all served a purpose while being on the stage. As for music I enjoyed most of the songs except for the song “Never Fall in Love” sung by Mia Weinberger because of how high pitch her voice is it was hard to understand what she was singing, but my favorite song was “Happy All The Time” because I enjoyed the choreography along with Buddy’s part towards the end of the song which made is personality very transparent to the audience. At the end of the play I left feeling very merry and excited for the holiday seasons coming up. I personally took away from this play a very important lesson about the holidays and that is: the holidays are about being together and not about the material things in life.…

The beginning of Noh Theater dates back to 11th century Japan. At this time entertainment was taking a turn toward musical form and dramatic nature. Poetry had been flourishing in Japan for many years, and performance art began to develop by way of influences from China and Korea. Two of these types of entertainment, the sarugaku and the dengaku, merged, and Noh theater blossomed. Saragaku offered a choreographic element, and the dengaku brought an element of the dramatic.…

When first arriving at the Lyric Opera of Chicago I had no idea what to expect as it was my very first time attending an opera. My friends and I found our seats and waited patiently for the act to begin. I was immediately surprised when the opera did not start off right after the announcement was made that signaled the start of the performance, but instead, the first eight minutes consisted of music played by the orchestra pit. When the actors made their appearance on stage they automatically gave off a tone of humor that was prevalent throughout the show. The stepsisters and Don Magnifico were amusing because their characters only cared about the wealth that came with prince and because of this they tried too hard to try to impress him.…
