The Olmec’s were the first known civilizations in Mesoamerica and had numerous incredible achievements. The Olmec tribe had a fascinating culture which would, therefore, have a lasting on the later tribes and civilizations such as the Aztecs, and the Mayans. The Olmec’s had copious significant accomplishments that would, furthermore, leave a substantial influence on all of Mesoamerica for centuries to come.
The multitude of achievements made by the Olmec’s were some of the earliest known feats accomplished in their area. One of the many is their well-known colossal heads that have supposedly been moved hundreds of miles to their final locations in the Olmec temples and palaces. Furthermore, the Olmec tribe had one of the largest empires in Mesoamerica and would be the central empire from which the other realms of the Aztecs and Mayans would branch off of the Olmec’s. The Olmec culture, such as the idea of the Jaguar and the Sun god would pass on to the Aztec’s and Mayans. Furthermore, a lot of these attributes would even pass on to the more modern, Southern Mesoamerican culture in places such as Guatemala. These massive influences can be seen even today in the lower Mesoamerican cultures that are still isolated and can practice some of the ancestor’s traditions.
So, while we don’t know much about the Olmec people, we know that their achievements and culture would influence all of the later civilizations of the region. This tribe was the first empire in Mesoamerica and was the beginning of the many cultures that would thrive in that area many thousands of years later.
