As a parent, Olive Kitteridge was both a good and bad mother for Christopher. She is the type of person many over-protective mothers who only want “the best for their children”, and I put the quotation marks with that phrase because it is an understatement of the mothers’ huge expectations of their kids’ future lives. Whenever parents use the phrase, “I’m only doing this because it is best for you,” they are forcing the expectations into reality while hiding behind the pseudo-love for their children’s happiness. Parents like these create the “perfect” child they plan to raise, and Olive is just like that parent.
