Olemaun Pokiak Analysis

At the age of eight, Olemaun Pokiak was a little girl who started out to have big dreams. Her curiosity lead her wanting to learn how to read. Hearing bits of a old story tale from her older half sister, Margaret wanted to know why Alice went down the rabbit hole. Wanting to know the answer, she realized she would need to learn how to read. As she wished she attended one in aklavik, a small community on the west side of the Mackenzie River that was far from her home in the Artic high north. While staying there, the “outsiders” gave her the name Margaret. While time flies by, she learned many expressions of herself she never discovered. Oleamuan was diligent, independent and very brave.

Olemaun Pokiak was always diligent. Before and even after the goal of hers, she would always help her parents out at home. That includes taking care of her siblings, and doing chores. While spending the time at school, she worked at the hospital non-stop. She always tried her best with her work. Unlike others, she studied even for the fact that she had free time.

Even though attending the school she set her dreams too, she didn’t have many friends there. During the time she was at school, she taught herslef how to read. She was capable in herself without needing to rely on anyone. All the emotions she have gone throughtout her time at the school she handled all on her own.
