Oldsmobile Cut from the General Motors Team
When General Motors cut Oldsmobile from the team in 2004, it was the first sign the opening decade to the new millennium would change America's largest car company forever. Unfortunately, for fans of GM cars the closure of Oldsmobile would be followed by the [death of the Pontiac Motor Division] just six years later. It's not easy to shut down a brand that helped start your company and built quality cars for over 100 years. Here we'll focus on the birth of the Oldsmobile car company and highlight some of the company’s remarkable achievements and major setbacks.

General Motors shifted the performance aspect into the Pontiac and Chevrolet divisions, leaving Oldsmobile to fight it out in an increasingly difficult and narrow market.
However, Oldsmobile didn't go down without a fight. In 1995, they released an aggressive new car called the Aurora that featured a unique looking aerodynamic design. In 1997, they followed this up with a smaller version called the intrigue. Unfortunately, these models couldn't save the company and they ceased production in April 2004. In an interesting twist the last 500 cars of each model to leave the assembly plants received a special Oldsmobile heritage emblem package and [final 500 literature].

You don't see a lot of Oldsmobile classic cars at local shows in my area. Whether it's because the line of automobiles isn't supported as well as other brands or it's a simple lack of interest continues to be debated.
