February 8, 2016 So for my second critique I was able to go to Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and pick a performance that i would find interesting to listen to and focus on that. So the one I have chosen to do was called “Oldies, But Goodies” and the performers that are performing in this piece are going to be, the Musicians from Ravinia’s Steans Institute and they are going to perform “Work for string quartet by Boccherini’, and the next performer is Jean-Frederic Neuburger, and he is going perform, “Work for solo piano by Bach”. This was an Italian Concerto in F major. The genre of this piece was solo keyboard and the period of this piece is Baroque. Jean-Frederic Neuburger played this piece on April 2, 2008. This piece was known as a curious animal, a concerto for solo piano without any orchestra or any other ensemble, meaning it is a concerto for a piano and himself. When played on piano offers a more richer dynamic possibility. This piece starts of really pronounced, and keeps you interested by all the different transformations it has. you could tell in this music that it was meant to be prestissimo. This music was very dynamic in a way that it had constant change and kept you interested, in another way it was very dynamic because the volume of the piano was very constant and very loud. There were parts in this piece where it did go from decrescendo to crescendo, and parts where it went from crescendo to decrescendo, and I think that is what helped in keeping the audience engaged and interested in the piece, and also helped with the dynamic of constant change. There was a part in the music, when I was just listening and it sounded like it was going to end and then it surprises you and starts back up with even more energy that it had starting the piece.
