Older Ports Expansion

With the expansion of maritime and intermodal transportation, older ports with limited real estate must remain possible options to move cargo. There are some ways, in which the older ports like Baltimore, Philadelphia, and others with limited real-estate available for expansion would be able to compete with bigger newer ports. Improvements would be critical in improving the ports productivity to compete with the newer larger ports. The majority of ports and terminals were built for a volume of more than 2 million moves (Konings, Priemus, & Nijkamp, p. 114). Since the ports in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and others cannot expand the land area, they must seek additional ways to transfer cargo.
