Very few organizations had the influence and had the control over America’s underworld like the Chicago Outfit. The Outfit was a group of gangsters that were ruthless and they were willing to take any means necessary to get what they wanted. They took over a city and took advantage of a federal law that greatly benefited organized crime. The most famous of all mafia kingpins, Alphonse Gabriel “Al” Capone, controlled the Outfit and had a major hand in making it one of the most powerful organizations for many years.…
When playing Witch Mafia on Friday, the objective of the game is to kill the Black Man, but instead we ended up killing nearly all of our townspeople. Like the Puritans, we came up with faulty and stretched reasons for why one of the townspeople was guilty, simply because we needed to kill someone, yet did not have any real evidence for doing so. Some of the people in the class did not feel one way or another about a person, and their votes were cast as swing votes. The swing votes were mostly determined by who had the most elaborate and elongated analogy. Sometimes the analogies made sense, but when the person was expressing their idea in a very intense way, it was easy for others to succumb to that idea instead of going with their better…
The 1920s earned their moniker—the "Roaring '20s"—through the decade's real and sustained prosperity, dizzying technological advancements, and lively culture. The decade marked the flourishing of the modern mass-production, mass-consumption economy, which delivered fantastic profits to investors while also raising the living standard of the urban middle and working-class. But for the large minority of Americans who made their livelihoods in agriculture, the decade roared only with the agony of prolonged depression.…

When thinking of the Gilded Age, at first I often thought of money, wealth, and the beautiful mansions that we are surrounded with here in Newport. Throughout this period production spiked for materials such as iron and steel, which were used to build railroads and means for transportation at this time. Resources such as lumber, gold, and silver also increased, which relied on the increase in routes for transportation. All of the spikes in different industries produced a mass of wealth in the nation for businessmen specifically.…

7.09 am, I was awake. Greeted by the blinding light of the morning sun shining through my bedroom window and welcomed into the chaos by the erratic beating of my own. It had taken exactly 10 hours for Sudbury to die away. I sat there thinking, something I often do. I had large gaps of memory.…

Freedoms such as being able to vote, express them-selves, and gain a sense of respect from others. Not only was fashion a piece of material back in the 1920’s, but also a form of movement. With the turn of the decade and fashion, women were able to speak for them-selves whether their voices were seen or heard as negative or positive. The Flapper image became negative for the elders but the image allowed young women to be able to grow out of that stage into mature women. Wanting to move out due to their parent’s constant lectures on how to live their lives caused the women to rebel and move out of their homes resulting in search of jobs to be able to support them-selves financially.…
The 18th centuries were a time of elegance and knowledge, but the most striking of all were the over-the-top fashion and beauty statements. Throughout this course I have gained more of an appreciation for artwork and the artists that create them. I have also gained an appreciation for the people that try to define what art is in general or more specifically what makes good art. We have read great thinkers and their philosophies on this, and the fact that even people of such great intelligence can disagree on the subject proves how challenging it can be. By reading the opinions of these great thinkers, and by discussing their thought with our class, I feel I am in a much better place as to define what makes good art myself. I define art as anything created by someone that inspires another to appreciation.…
