In the world of advertisements, companies thrive on targeting a specific type of generation, sex, and product orientation. Advertisements rely on many things to attract their target buyer. Bright colors are one of many ways that consumers fall into the “mousetrap” that advertisers set to lure in the revenue and profits on their product. Another way that advertisers lure in customers is by using provocative and seductive images. In many cases, these images are correlated with colognes, aftershaves, perfumes, and scented body washes. With that being said this brings up the topic of the rest of the paper. Advertisements like Old Spice use their bright colors, fancy lettering, and seductive picturing and videos to lure in men to use their product. The Old Spice Musk for Men add explicitly sells body soap, aftershave, and cologne, but it implicitly sells success, masculinity, and female attraction. In the Old Spice ad the words on the bottom left hand corner read: “The perfect gift for a sensuous man. A very different must that comes across with unmistakable intentions. Deep, mysterious and long lasting. And above all, definitely male.” This ad is definitely aimed at the male audience. In the essay by Naomi Klein called “No Logo” she says “For the most part, the ad campaigns at the end of the nineteenth century and the start of the twentieth used a set rigid, pseudo scientific formulas: Rivals were mentioned, ad copy used declarative statements only…” (779). The main use of this quote is for the statement of using declarative statements only. This whole concept definitely fits the Old Spice ad. The statements on the ad are very declarative. They are basically telling you that when the viewer and consumer buy this Old Spice product they will end up like the man on in the picture with a very attractive female figure draped all over
