In “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the central themes are cruelty and greed. This story proves that Elisenda and Pelayo contradict their values by the treatment the old man receives, and shows their human response to those who are helpless, different, and/or in poor health. From the imprisonment to creating an attraction to make a profit, it displays no respect, compassion, nor care for the unknown.
When Elisenda and Pelayo discover what seems to be an old man with wing soon realize, with the help of their neighbor, they may have an angel on their hands. One would think with that type of information they would treat this so-called angel with the utmost respect, but that wasn’t the case in this situation. Instead
