No one can deny that Equiano was a very interesting man, as he said it himself, he lived through things that not everyone can relate to, He lived severe hardships most of this life. Equiano lived through slavery, exploitation, mental and physical abuse, even after all of this Equiano often seemed to see the positive side in humanity, he wanted to see human kindness, prosperity and divine intervention. Equiano never felt as if he was less than others, his drive to prosper was greater than his failures. He was always trying to better himself despite the obstacles and trials life would throw at him. He goes on explaining the solitude his mom felt even after doing some very dark rituals. His mom would make oblations at his grandmother’s tomb which was kind of a small solitary house and he explains, he would sometimes go with his mom to keep her company. He says his mom would do her libations, and spent most of the night by the tomb crying and in lamentations. He explains most of the time; he was terrified by these manifestations. He explains these kind of nights to be awful and gloomy, and as he says “these concurring with the doleful cries of birds, by which these places were frequented, gave an inexpressible terror to the scene. ’’ Equiano lived through what a lot of people including him at some point in his life consider it to be “Black magic” he was surrounded by a lot of withcraft, sacrifices and rituals. He had everything in his power to poison whoever he wanted if he wanted to do so, why? Because he had the tools to do so, he had so many snakes that produced poison to choose from but Equiano always went for a positive route, he never wanted to hurt anymore. In his town people believed in a creator of all things, he is supposed to live in the sun and is girted that he can never drink or eat from but according to the people from Equiano’s town he “smokes” from a pipe which was a luxury to those people. This creator was the organizer of events especially for deaths or the ones in captivity. Equiano’s religion wasn’t far from Jewish religion, they also practice circumcisions just like the Jews and also made lots of offerings and feasts on that occasion in the same manner Jews
