Another thing that played an important role in Okonkwo’s death is the tribe exile of seven years. Okonkwo was exile for an accidental crime, and had to start all over in a new tribe. Achebe writes, “And so he regretted every day of his exile” (Achebe 58). Okonkwo was known to be a strong leader and provided within his tribe; therefore, when he was exiled he was leaving everything he worked so hard on. Furthermore, Okonkwo leaving his home to somewhere new display much irony because Ikemefuna had to do the same as him. As a result, Okonkwo exile becomes something he regrets daily because he not only did he loses all he ever accomplished, but he also reminded of a decision he made.
