Lil always sat at the library with him and Mr.Powell while he was drawing. Lil was a lot of help to Doug in some ways. Also, Lil can be a pain when she asks a lot of questions, like one day, “Lil helped by letting me know what I was doing wrong. ‘Isn’t there to much blood there?’ … ‘It gives the drawing drama.’ ‘His wing is slanted off to the side.’ ‘Point of view’ … ‘And I think his neck is too far back.’ ‘It’s called composition.’” (pg.134). Lil asked many questions that Doug had quick answers for. Eventually Doug liked how Lil went to the library with him and sat at the table in the room. One day, “I sat down. I looked across the room to the table where Lil usually was sitting. ‘It will be a surprise for her’ … ‘How many times did you mess up?’ said Lil. ‘None.’ ‘Doug, you are such a liar.’” (pg.330-331). When Lil had to go to the hospital Doug still went to the library. Near the end of the book Doug liked having Lil in the library with him. Doug has encountered many family issues in the book. Lil has helped him through those issues in many different ways. Even if it doesn’t seem like it, she helps in some way. At first in the book, Doug doesn’t want to draw in the library with Mr. Powell. After a while Doug decides that he would. Lil started to come in with him and see how what he was doing. Also, Lil has given Doug hope in school after things go wrong. What will happen to Doug if Lil doesn’t get better and she dies in the hospital? Will he go back to school and do bad things?
