O.J Simpson was an upstanding citizen, ex-football player, husband and father until June 12 1994. On this day 21 years ago, O.J Simpson’s wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman were brutally murdered at the Simpson family home. Simpson was brought in for questioning and this started the lengthy court process which was televised for a total of 134 days ending on October 3rd 1995. Simpson was ultimately found not guilty of all charged by a jury of 10 women and 2 men (Linder, 2000). However in October of 2008, Simpson was arrested for 12 counts of armed robbery and kidnapping with an accomplice. Once a crime is reported police and other services (if need be) are dispatched to the scene of the crime. In the case of O.J Simpson, once the call was placed to 911 by a neighbour, police were the first responders followed by an ambulance and Forensics Team. (Newton, Ford, & Rutten, 1995). The next step in the investigative process is the collection of evidence. In the Simpson case, there were vital bits of evidence collected at this stage of the investigation including the gloves that Simpson was later asked to try on during trial. The next step is to go over the witnesses and their statements/roll in the upcoming trial. In the Simpson case, this consisted of lengthy interview with O.J Simpson, his family, his limousine driver and the families of both victims. The crime is then assessed on seriousness and taken to court. In the event of an appeal, a Notice of Intention to Appeal within 28 days from the original sentence is filed. Also filed at this time are the Grounds of Appeal and Submissions on appeal. In the O.J Simpson case, all of these papers were subsequently filed on time. (Huizenga, 1995) It was stated by Robert Kardashian in “The Secret Tapes of the O.J. Case: The Untold Story” that O.J Simpson had stopped taking his rheumatoid arthritis medication one month before being asked to put the gloves on during the trial. This would have made the knuckles on his hands inflamed.
