Simpson’s legal team was contacted by the LAPD ordering them to tell Mr. Simpson to surrender himself to the authorities. The lawyers later met with Mr. Simpson and informed him about the phone call and that he is scheduled to surrender at 11 a.m.. However, Mr. Simpson refused to surrender himself and was then considered a fugitive by the LAPD. At 5 p.m., a press conference was held in which his team of lawyers read a suicide note that he left behind. In the note, Mr. Simpson denies his involvement in the double murders and asks for people to not think of him as a murderer. Later on, Mr. Simpson had made a call to 911 from a cell phone in his Ford Bronco. His friend, Al Cowlings was driving the car while Mr. Simpson was in the back. Based on the third party doctrine, police were then able to determine his coordinates by tracking the signals sent from his phone to the cell towers. He was traced to the Santa Ana Freeway in Orange County. Police units were then dispatched to intercept the white bronco, however Mr. Simpson continued to refuse to surrender himself. The bronco was pursued to Mr. Simpson’s Brentwood estate, where he later surrendered himself after negotiations with the LAPD. Mr. Simpson was then taken into police custody at Parker Center. Mr. Simpson apologized for not turning himself in. The police found several items in the bronco, including $8,000, a gun, a passport, and pictures of his family
