“If you have four years to complete your college education, do it,” said Bo Jackson, a prominent professional baseball and football player in the 1980s and 1990s (Bo Jackson Quote). He was the first of his family to be given the opportunity to go to college, and he took it. Like Bo, I will seize my opportunity to attend college at either the Ohio State University, or the University of Toledo. For me, the hardest part is not the academics, but deciding which of the two to attend. Among everything Tuition, location and living conditions, and my future major in engineering all impacted my decision the most. Based on this criteria, I will attend college at the Ohio State University in Columbus because of its affordability, location and living conditions, and rank as the best engineering school in Ohio. When deciding where I would attend college, tuition, or the cost per year, was imperative. If I picked a school that had sky-high tuition, I would be drowned in student loan debt. As a result, I chose to attend college in state in Toledo or at Ohio State. At Toledo, living on campus and attending is $24,809 per year (College Navigator). Ohio State’s location is far superior to Toledo’s. Ohio State’s location is the perfect balance between being away from home and developing independence, but not being so far from home that I get homesick. On the other hand, Toledo is over 100 more miles away from home and I might feel homesick (College Navigator). In addition, Ohio State’s has newer on campus dorms that are better than Toledo’s dorms that are older (University Housing). I would rather go to Ohio state and live in a better dorm and be closer to home but not too close, than go to Toledo and live in a worse dorm further away from home at relatively the same price.
