Many luxuries are granted to the citizens of the U.S. such as technology that helps us get through the day. These luxuries are not available to people in other countries and I believe that if I had to step into one of the four children in the movie On the Way to School I could handle living Carlos’s life. Carlos lives in Argentina and is 11 years old which is near my age, but that is the only thing we have slightly in common. We live completely different lives and Carlos does not have all the luxuries I have. Out of the all the other kids Carlos is the most modern of the four his clothes are similar to mine and he lives in a small house made up of bricks.…

Marcus Gravey, an early 20th century American Political leader, once stated “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots. “ For any group of people to be successful, it is imperative that they understand where they once came from. Many precentors in our class captured the essence and importance created by the specific culture they studied. To Be a Slob or Not to Be While some people still hold to the fact that working one’s hardest and not appearing to seem lazy is in one’s best interest, others may try to explain how making the minimum effort of doing things can have greater perks than trying to do the best of one’s ability. In this case, Andy Simmons, the author of the article “I’m a Slob, and You Should Be One Too”, fails to deliver an effective article that suggests being a slob is a good thing and negatively encourages others to join his stance. Andy Simmons’s claim that being a slob results in benefits is flawed because making up one’s bed can develop valuable habits, having a cluttered desk can lead to anxiety, and doing nothing instead of being active can have negative…

The main point of this movie is to teach us about obesity and what it can do to our bodies. Fed Up focuses on the causes of obesity in the United States and shows that the large quantities of sugar in processed foods are an overlooked problem. The main culprit in Fed Up would be the food industry removing the fat and replacing it with sugar. This has become such a problem recently because more children and younger adults are having serious problems like strokes and heart attacks. It is also making children and younger adults become diabetic at younger ages.…

Writing As Thinking Rebecca Solnit's essay, “Aerobic Sisyphus and the Suburbanized Psyche” was a critical piece of work focused on walking and its decline through the age of industry and modern technology. I believe Solnit was wrong in the terms of her essay, which is mostly about walking, in many ways. She makes a few good points, like when she talks about the idea of technology removing us from our sense of physical socialness, and how we admire and feel about the natural world. She also makes strong points about the separation of home and work, the creation of suburbia and the difficulty of modern walking. Her ideas of disembodiment and how we today work, exercise, and interact with our world has changed so negatively from that of the past…

The part of the Jane Elliot video that surprised me was that the African-American participants said that they have to conform to a white society. If a person of another race watched this video, I do not think they would find this as surprising as I found it. This is because they likely live the same way that the participants in the video did. The part of the doll test video that surprised me was when that even the African-American children were saying that the black doll was bad.…

Carrie, I enjoyed reading your post, I agree the video was informative. You discussed several things in your post that I agree. The first was that obesity is a preventable disease. The reason why I agree with this statement is because, I know personally society is working to get the word out there about eating healthy and the risks associated with not eating healthy. For example, at some fast food restaurants they have icons on the menu to indicate healthy choice and at one of my favorite stores, Wal-Mart they do the same thing.…

This example is about leadership. The video shows how easy it is to start doing something individually. If we start doing something by ourselves, other people are going to follow us. The movie Fed Up is a documentary film directed and produced by Stephanie Soechtig, who has directed and produced Under the Gun and Tapped which are two other documentaries. The film, Fed Up, focuses on the causes of obesity in the United States and how the government has failed to stop the food industry from putting extra sugar in their products. The beginning of the film opens with different warnings from doctors and The Journal of the American Medical Association about an epidemic that has seem to happen overnight. The epidemic mentioned would be the attack of sugar on products. Some of the reasons sugar has been labeled as an epidemic would be because around 80 percent of all processed foods in grocery stores have added sugar that have…

Healthy Decision Persuasive Essay by Jasiah Lots of people know it’s best to exercise 5 days a week for about an hour each day, but many people would rather play Destiny or Skyrim than go outside and play a game like soccer or lacrosse. In the following paragraphs I will explain the pros and cons of getting at least 1 hour of exercise 5 days a week and how it can affect your lifestyle. An unexpected benefit of exercise is a reduced amount of stress. Another would be the fact that exercise boosts happy chemicals in your body and in some cases can be just as effective as antidepressant pills. Something else would be the proven idea that it prevents cognitive decline by building up chemicals in the brain that support and even deny degeneration…
