The industry of pharmaceutics is a very competitive field. Moreover, corporate mergers and acquisition are a complex method to gain corporate advantage over it’s competitors. In this case the company Wellcome agreed to merger with a larger company, Glaxo. Promedico, an Israeli company was in charge of the distribution and medical registration of Wellcome. The department of marketing was under the management of Ofra Sherman and considerate it was a division of Promedico, however, their salaries were covered by Wellcome. “This political sensitivity led to a unique organizational structure existing in Israel, one in which reporting lines were less than clear” (Jick, Peiperl, 2010, p. 349). …show more content…
She was dealing with confidential information and had no support from either company. As this can be considerate a difficult situation, Sherman is responsible for taking care of those who seek to follow and be a leader at all moment. Her strategy in this situation was to obtain as much information possible about the plans of Glaxo and visualize the different scenarios in case she had to face one or the other. However, as a leader she should have taken the initiative to communicate with Glaxo’s team and pursue answer that could benefit her team. Approaching Glaxo with the intention to be an active member in the process of transition could benefit her and the whole team instead of staying in the back waiting for their futures to be determine. In today’s business field, organizations look for employees that are interested in providing their services in order to help the organization grow. “Organizational loyalty entails promoting the organization to outsiders, protecting and defending it against external threats, and remaining committed to it even under adverse conditions” (Jauhari, Singh, 2013). She spent five years working for Wellcome and was a major factor for the success of the organization. Based on the case, the lack of communication developed insecurities and wondering about her position in the organization. She invested a lot of time and effort within Wellcome organization and this did not allow her to simply move forward with Glaxo. She had valid reasons to react the way she did, however, as a leader she needs to accept the reality and incorporate actions that will benefit her and the team and that includes reaching out to Glaxo and exploring the new possibilities and
